NWSL Commissioner said ” US Soccer would not Manage National Women’s Soccer League Anymore”

According to NWSL commissioner Lisa Baird, US soccer is not managing the National Women’s Soccer League. She spoke on the wide-ranging conference call and announced that Sacramento’s franchise would join the NWSL in 2022.  American management of the NWSL was supposed to come to an end in 2019 but extended to 2020. In this way, the team owners get more control over the league.

US soccer had been managing the league since 2013. Baird said they would invest in the NWSL and characterized the relationship as a new chapter with both sides for ongoing league success.

She said that we are interested in building up the best women’s success league globally, and partnership will be all about this. Moreover, she also said that we want to continue the lead in performance, and continually we will upgrade the standards of women’s soccer in the United States. In these option, sports, science, coaching like things are included.

It is also clear that the federation continued to invest an estimated $20 million in the league and would pay the salaries of the US national team players allocated across the league.

There are no chances to dop federation funding.  The Sacramento’s addiction brings the 12 league teams. Louisville will also join NESL this season; meanwhile, Angel City FC and Sacramento in Los Angeles will come next season. According to reports, no official news is released yet, and the Sacramento franchise will join Major League Soccer in 2023.

A waiver would allow the drafted players to remain with college teams and join the NWSL following the season.  However, due to covid, it was delayed, although some leagues completed the fall season.

The NWSL’s Board of Givernners expanded the team players in which all those were included who has exhausted three years of college eligibility before the 2020-2021 season. So the forty-nine players declared for the draft.

NWSL 2002 was shut down because of the pandemic. The league went on to host the challenge cup tournament in a bubble in Utah over the summer.

At the end of the conference, she said that the league is planning a preseason challenge cup this year, but no details are finalized yet.
