Early Life and Career
Michael George Vrabel was born in Akron, Ohio, on August 14, 1975. He lived most of his life in the middle of the United States. First, he went to Jordanian Walsh High School in Cuyahoga Falls. Then, after a successful high school career, he went to Ohio State University on an athletic scholarship.
From 1993 to 1996, Vrabel was a defensive end for the Ohio Buckeyes football team. During that time, he was named the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year twice (1995 and 1996) and was named a First Team All-American by almost everyone. He had a total of 36 sacks and 66 tackles for a loss in college before entering the NFL Draft in 1997. The Pittsburgh Steelers picked him up with the 91st pick in the third round.
Vrabel helped the Steelers for four years before he became a free agent and signed with the New England Patriots for the 2001-2002 season. Vrabel played for the Patriots for eight years and helped them win three Super Bowls. He was also named to the First Team All-Pro and played in the Pro Bowl in 2007.
