At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Maroney was a member of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team, dubbed the Fierce Five by the media. The team won the gold medal in the team final with a score of 182.596, defeating Russia and China. Maroney contributed scores of 16.233 on vault and 15.066 on floor exercises to the team’s total. In the individual all-around final, Maroney finished in fourth place with a score of 59.565.
