Ritter was born on December 16, 1981, in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, to Gary Ritter and Kathi Taylor. She was raised on a farm outside Shickshinny, Pennsylvania. Krysten has one sister, Erin Ritter. Krysten graduated from Northwest Area High School in 1999. Krysten then attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts for one year before dropping out to pursue acting full time.

Krysten made her acting debut in the 2001 television film Sugar. Krysten has since appeared in numerous films and television series, including Big Eyes (2014), Life Happens (2011), She’s Out of My League (2010), Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), 27 Dresses (2008), and Gilmore Girls (2000–2007).

In 2015, Krysten was cast as the lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Jessica Jones. The show debuted on Netflix in November 2015 to critical acclaim.
