College dorm parties have always been fun parties to create memories. Word travels fast around college campuses, and students always look for something to do Saturday nights. Every student enjoys the party during college days or wishes to throw a party for friends.
But not everyone knows how to organize a party, so here, I will provide every detail of how you can arrange a party. Let’s have a look through this piece of writing, and you’ll have no idea how easy it is to host a party.
What exactly does college dorm mean?
The word dormitory was initially derived from the Latin word dormitories and commonly reduced to the word dorm, a structure designed in-house for large groups of people, like high school, boarding schools, college, or university students.
The dorm is shorter and slangier, which students commonly use. In some countries, the word dorm refers to a room with many beds that can accommodate more people. If you enroll in college, you’ll most probably live in a dorm or dormitory.
Student residences and residence halls are other names for dorms. Laundry and recreation rooms are also available in dorms. As people live in hostels, likewise, students live in dorms with roommates.
A dorm is a special place for students where friendships are formed. The dorm is home for those who frequently study or try to avoid studying. It’s a home away from home for students.
Dorm or Residence Hall
The term “dorm” is frequently used in the US, but the official word “resident hall” is preferred among the residence life community.
There are many Universities that “offer not merely a place to live, but also chances for students’ personal and educational growth.
In the United Kingdom, the term “halls,” short for “halls of residence,” is preferred for student accommodation. The standard term used in English-speaking Canada is “residence” and short-form “res.”
What does it mean to have a college dorm party?
If you don’t know about dorm parties, it is a long-time tradition at most universities. These parties help students relax, bond with other mates, and take their minds off all that studying stuff. This kind of welcome party is usually planned in boarding schools or institutions with dorm students. It is a time when students can forget all the study pressure and enjoy themselves.
Dorm parties are not illegal; in fact, these are the most fun parties, and you cannot forget these parties easily. Students who recently joined the college can arrange a dorm party to get to know each other better. A dorm party strengthens bonds between students, making them know and understand each other better.
Besides, one reason for introducing this party is so students can use this medium to participate in games to know themselves better. If you are not a party person and do not want to attend a dorm party, it is wrong to exclude yourself because it is such an interesting event to know and get along with other students you should participate in parties like this.
A dorm party is a fun and casual game in which a student can choose from various characters, such as a cheerleader, a hipster, a party girl, or a jock. You can also recreate the traditional college life as depicted in movies, where students are attractive and always involved in exciting games and activities.
If you have been looking for some interesting things to add to the party to make it memorable, you are at the right place. Don’t worry; I’ve spent so much time in the dorm rooms writing a clear post to share my ideas.
Things to consider before throwing a dorm party
Your dorm party can make or break your college experience. You’ll meet some of your best friends, and you don’t care about other people. You enjoy a meal at dining halls and gain a few pounds at the dorm party. You may also want to invite your friends for a couple of (non-alcoholic) drinks. Here are a few things you need to know before giving a second thought to a party.
Get close to your RA
First things you need to understand if you are planning to throw a party. Can you host a dorm party without the permission of the resident advisors (RAs)? It depends because some dormitories allow parties and some don’t.
However, you can find out by searching through the residence rules or consulting your RAs. Ensure you find out the legal authority before you even think about the party. You absolutely don’t want to waste your effort.
Your RA has the authority to either end the party or let it continue as long as the host keeps things under control. So be close to your RAs if you’re on their good book, it may keep you from getting written up.
Gather your people
Once you confirm that the party is not against any rules, the next thing is to get your roommates’ approval. You cannot organize a fantastic event without consulting your roommates.
What if some dorm students have a busy schedule or important assignments? Similarly, it would be best to ask your neighbors too, as every student has a different class schedule. What is good for you may not be the best time for every other student.
Arrange a party committee
It is considerably easier to throw a party when more than two dorm members are involved. Sure, you can plan it alone, but that means you’ll have to do all the work yourself, and it would be so hectic.
Planning a party is more than a thought like cleaning up before and after the gathering, getting beverages, serving food, paying the bill, deciding on a theme, music, decoration. So, it can be exhausting for an individual.
Cleaning your dorm is the first step; you need to ensure that your venue is clean. No one wants to sit and enjoy another person’s filthy place. Another less visible reason is that if they keep your belongings safe, they are less likely to be misplaced.
It explains that if someone spills a drink on your desk, it is much easier to clean up than cluttered with your textbooks, laptops, clothes, backpack, and other belongings. Plus, a filthy and cluttered place appears smaller and cramped than a clean one.
Create a guest list and invitations
If no one shows up in your dorm, it’s not a party. A one-person party is no party at all; it’s a terrific idea. Therefore, you’ll have to invite more people. First, you need to calculate how many people you can comfortably fit in your area.
Of course, you don’t want to get overcrowded. Make sure there’s enough space for the guests to roam about when you’re approximating. As a host, It’s up to you to decide who to invite. Friends, classmates, housemates, dorm neighbors, and resident advisers are good options.
Asking your resident advisor and neighbors is a good choice. If you invited neighbors to your party, they wouldn’t submit a noise complaint, and also, the invitation informs them you will be entertaining visitors. Depending on your party, you may want to mix both guests, men, and women.
Make a playlist
The party is incomplete without good music, and your guests indeed like music (but not too loudly), so create a playlist so you save your time from fumbling around on your phone all night while accompanying your guests. Add a few hit, energetic, and trendy songs, and avoid playing anything too slow or out of the beat.
Be responsible and mindful
It’s fine if you want to have a good time with your friends and fellow mates, but you must remain responsible and observant as a host. You don’t want to be too occupied or incompetent to clean up a mess or answer the door when someone knocks. If your party is way too loud, even if you are, RA is in your favor, and someone’s neighbors will want to shut it down.
Hide all Valuables Things
Drunk students can result in things damaging or even getting swiped. Before having a dorm party, keep your stuff out of sight if things get out of hand. If you have any breakable items or anything you don’t want to be damaged, it’s better to keep them somewhere safe in a locked closet or drawer. It sucks if something breaks in the middle of a party, it’s also irritating to clean up the mess.
