There’s a bit of a backlash against Fox’s decision to useĀ Piers Morgan on their first network broadcast of the English Premier League, which did not light up the ratings. I’m generally pro-Piers — he’s entertaining and a lightning rod, which usually equals good TV — but I thought the Fox-ers made a mistake by putting Morgan on equal standing with their top analyst Eric Wynalda.
Morgan should have been used in one or two separate segments — like a sideshow, not the main attraction. As a rabid Arsenal fan, his appearance made sense for Sunday’s Gunners’ match against Manchester United. But, his scheduled appearance for the next Fox network game — Chelsea-Manchester United on February 5, Super Bowl Sunday — seems more nonsensical.
